One Day, One Block, Two Cats from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. I'd say it was a slow day here yesterday, and maybe it was. I got everything finished I hoped I would, so it's all good. In the sewing room, I made November's cat for the Cats in Pajamas quilt. All the "filler" pieces were cut at the beginning, and so when I make one of these blocks, I'm cutting only pieces for the cat and the pajamas. They aren't hard to sew together, but it does take several hours...for me, at least.

Sit and Stitch from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. We had a relatively nice day of weather yesterday. It's getting colder though. I donned my winter woolies and got out early to cut back the dahlias. And that brings my 2024 gardening efforts to a close. It's up to Mike now to load the pots into the bucket of the tractor and move them to the garage. (I've never actually tried picking them up, but apparently, the pots are heavy.)

While I was out, I took a few pictures of our fall color. Just two trees have enough leaves left to make ...

Three Projects from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It's still fairly dark and foggy out as I'm writing. It's anyone's guess what the weather holds for us today, but it doesn't matter much either. I'll be spending most of my day inside. We'll venture out for our grocery shopping tomorrow. The weekend will be busy. The kids are coming up for dinner to celebrate Erik's 45th birthday. Can you believe I have a child that old when I'm clearly so youthful?

It was a good sewing day yesterday. And I even made good on my ...

Phenology Phinally Phinished from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. In yesterday's blog, I was going to say I was determined to get back to my exercising routine with a walk on the treadmill. I think I've been saying it for about a week. In yesterday's post, I simply forgot, which was probably a good thing because it would have been a lie. Instead, I couldn't blast myself off the couch from my morning slow-stitching. The more I stitched, the more I wanted to finish. And so I stitched and stitched and stitched until I'd finished the last of it.

Watch out for Pirates from Romany Quilting

Watch out - the pirates have arrived, rattling their cutlasses and flying the Jolly Roger Flag!  These pirates were a RSC start in January this year.  I had a piece of pirate fabric and cut it into squares to make Happy Blocks.  All the colours of the rainbow were not represented in this fabric, so I made blocks bordered with green, red, yellow and light and  dark blue.

Pirate blocks bordered in green

As the  months rolled by the other blocks were made in the appropriate colours, and then I had fifteen.  It was time to assemble them this month, I ...

Sizing Up from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends and Happy Autumnal Equinox! I don't know about you, but the first day of fall has me fluffing my nest, settling in for the winter. Already this morning, I switched out my summer table runners to fall. We haven't noticed a lot of fall color in our area just yet. For this week, we're in our second summer. We missed a little bit rainy weather while we were traveling, and we came home to some very nice days. I want to get outside and weed before the rain sets in for good, but ...

A Little Sewing from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It was a good day yesterday. I was able to get back into the sewing room, and that was a nice way to spend an afternoon. Our day started with an early breakfast of our beloved Egg McMuffin, and then grocery shopping. We managed to get it all finished, drove home, and put it all away before 11:00 a.m. That left the whole afternoon free to spend in the sewing room.

An early start meant I hadn't yet made any progress on my slow-stitching. I did that before lunch. I'm still working ...

Passing for Normal from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. If you thought you were going to get a break from my incessant prattle, you're going to be disappointed. We managed to get all the unpacking finished yesterday...food, clothes, dirty laundry, towels, quilts...all unpacked and washed, if necessary. The one remaining wash load is the bedding. Aside from that, the trip has been moved to the dustbin of history now. Only the pictures and memories remain.

While I was doing laundry, I spent some time rearranging the magnets on the refrigerator. Surprisingly, I found room for five more. Hopefully, I'll still find ...

My Batik Beauty from Romany Quilting

This is another long winded RSC finish, which started off as another completely different project, way back when we lived in Upper Hutt.  I found my big bag of batiks, and decided to make Cobblestone blocks instead, and there it floundered again.  Eventually added it to the RSC list and started making Cobblestone blocks in the colour of the month, working away until I had stitched sufficient blocks to give me the required number for a large quilt.

My bag of batiks

The colours in this quilt is quite different from what I would usually choose for myself.  Lots of ...

Rounding the Final Corner from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. My night of sleep was short last night. It took me absolutely forever to fall asleep, but I was up at my usual time after just about 3 hours of shuteye. My mind was busy with everything I need to do, and there's no more procrastinating. Today, I really must start doing some packing. For the past couple of days, I've been doing some cooking and baking ahead. On yesterday's to-do list was to bake up these Chocolate-chunk Oatmeal Cookies with Pecans and Dried Cherries. Several years back, I scaled this favorite cookie ...

Blush from Sew Preeti Quilts

Have you seen my Blush?

Paul the model

I made the flimsy as a part of the Pantone Color Quilt Challenge which included three categories - mini quilt, not a mini quilt, and flimsy. The extremely limited guidelines are a double-edge sword. As participants we can make anything we want - no limits to creativity. Since we don't know the judging criteria we cannot make a quilt to win the challenge.

All the peaches

I chose to participate because I had plenty of gorgeous peachy goodness in my stash. I was in between projects. But most importantly, I wanted to play ...

Wrist Resting from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. As often happens when I'm doing free motion quilting, my left wrist tendonitis flared up yesterday. It had been threatening for a couple of days, but it was downright painful yesterday. It didn't really prevent me from doing anything I wanted to do, except it seemed wise to take a day off from quilting. If not, I'd probably end up having to wear a splint, and that makes everything awkward. I might take today off too since I can still feel some achiness. I might need to limit my quilting to just one ...
